What this website collects, why, and what you can do about it. In plain words, because a policy nobody can read is not much of a policy.
Who we are
Westhill AI is a web design and automation business based in Westhill, Aberdeenshire, working across Westhill, Aberdeen and Aberdeenshire. For anything in this policy, including any request about your information, contact lee@westhillai.com.
What we collect, and when
When you send an enquiry. The form on this site asks for your name, business name, email address, an optional website address and whatever you write in the message box. We collect that because you chose to send it, and we use it to reply and to discuss the work. Nothing more.
When you contact us directly. If you phone, email or message us on WhatsApp, we hold that conversation and the contact details it came from, for the same reason.
When you simply browse. Visiting the site does not require you to accept anything. If you decline cookies, no analytics or advertising technology loads at all.
Cookies and tracking
We use two non-essential technologies, and neither loads until you accept them. If you choose "Reject non-essential", they are never added to the page and send nothing.
- Google Analytics 4. Tells us how many people visit, which pages they read and roughly where in the world they are. We use it to work out which pages are worth improving. It is not used to identify you personally.
- Meta Pixel. Measures whether our advertising works, including whether someone who saw an advert later sent an enquiry. It sets a cookie in your browser and reports back to Meta.
Your choice is remembered in your own browser's local storage so we do not ask again on every page. Clearing your browser data clears that choice, and you will be asked again.
Who else handles this information
- Formspree receives and forwards the enquiry form, so anything you type into it passes through their service on the way to our inbox.
- Google processes analytics data, if you accepted analytics cookies.
- Meta processes advertising measurement data, if you accepted advertising cookies.
- Netlify hosts the site, and like any web host handles the technical request data needed to serve a page to you.
Some of these companies are based outside the UK, so information may be processed abroad under the safeguards those services provide.
How long we keep it
Enquiries and the conversations that follow are kept while there is a live reason to keep them, such as an ongoing project or a discussion that has not concluded, and then for a reasonable period afterwards as a business record. Analytics and advertising data are kept according to the retention settings of Google and Meta respectively. If you want your enquiry deleted sooner, ask and we will do it.
Your rights
You can ask us what information we hold about you, ask for it to be corrected, ask for it to be deleted, object to how we are using it, or withdraw your consent to cookies at any time by clearing your browser data for this site. Email lee@westhillai.com and we will deal with it.
If you are not happy with how we have handled something, you can complain to the Information Commissioner's Office, the UK's data protection regulator, at ico.org.uk.
Changes
If this policy changes we will update this page. It describes the site as it currently works, and we would rather correct it than leave it describing something we no longer do.
